All-Star NASCAR Race – First Race Ever!

Thanks to a wonderful sales rep with the Charlotte Observer, Trey and I got to go to the All-Star NASCAR race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. As you can see, Trey was READY to go…

We had suite tickets and got their early enough to get pit passes. We rode a golf cart into the infield and I wasn’t real sure where I was supposed to go. I figured out later that the “infield” is really a big party and it doesn’t matter where you go…you’re gonna have fun. As we walked by this one “campsite”, for lack of a better word, I saw a big sign over it that said, “Private Party”. Before I could stop him, Trey ran right into the campsite. Then I saw what made him run in. It was a stock car that some guy had running and was revving the engine. I was in awe of the roar of the engine when I looked down and some “good ole boy” was poking Trey in the stomach asking him if he wanted to sit in the stockcar. Trey was so stunned that someone would ask him to do this that he didn’t answer. The guy just picked Trey up and put him in there! They started the engine and coaxed him into revving the gas. THAT was a priceless moment! He could barely reach the petals but when he did, the smile that came over his face. Well, I’ll never forget it.

After that, I saw an area that was labeled “No Alcohol Beyond This Point”. I figured that was the pit! I’m smart, I know. We walked in and Trey was immediately in sensory overload, if he hadn’t been already. Trey was able to go anywhere he wanted just about in the pits. He crawled over stacks of tires, helped pit crews spray and wipe down tires, and even crawled into the engineer areas and pretended to boss everybody around. The crew guys said he was a natural at that.

Some guy was nuts enough to let Trey glue on lug nuts. You can see the other guys’ faces when he is doing this because it’s SERIOUS business. I later found out that guys get fired for this not being done correctly. Here’s to hoping this sweet gentlemen doesn’t have any retribution. He sure was nice to let Trey do that!

After this, we went to watch the race in the beautiful suite. I thought it was funny that at first they had all this froo-froo food out and people would snack here and there. They later put out fried chicken and it was a swarm to the buffet. We had a ton of delays with the racing but Trey still had the time of his life watching! We will be NASCAR fans for life now!
